Fishing trawler project 174610 “VSESLAV” Affordable, efficient, modern

About the fishing trawler pr. 174610 "VSESLAV"

The project 174610 was developed by a team of designers from the ADOMAT design bureau. Building of the vessel began on March 14, 2019. The launching ceremony took place on September 16, 2020. The vessel was handed over to the customer on September 7, 2022.

The ship is designed for year-round fishing of herring, sprat, codfish, and flatfish by pelagic, bottom, and twin trawls under the aft trawling scheme; transportation of the fish in the RSW-tanks to the places of reception and processing of fish on the shore.

When catching pelagic fish, the net drum partly takes trawl onto a drum, a hose is lowered overboard, the caught fish is pumped by a vacuum pump from the trawl,  and sent through a water separator into one of five tanks with cold sea water.

When catching with bottom and twin trawls, the catch is unloaded by crane into the receiving bunker by parts of 0.5 to 2 tons.

In the processing room, the fish is sorted and partly cut. The central increased tank is universal and can be used to store a catch in ice-filled boxes.

In the construction of cargo tanks, ADOMAT used a combination of polyurethane foam of various densities and polyurea applied to metal surfaces as insulating materials. This insulation has sufficient mechanical strength, durability, and reduces heat loss to the ship’s hull to almost zero (there are no “cold bridges”). In the operation of the vessel, during the repair work, the insulation is quite easily dismantled by parts and just as easily recovered at low cost.

The vessel is intended for year-round operation in ice-free seas, in a limited navigation area R2 - navigation in sea areas at seas with a wave height of 7,0 m with 3 % probability of exceeding level with ships proceeding not more than 100 miles away from the place of refuge and with an allowable distance between the places of refuge not more than 200 miles, including in ice conditions in accordance with ice class Ice1.

At the request of the shipowner, hull was designed navigation in sea areas at seas with a wave height of 8,5 m with 3 % probability of exceeding level and with the ships proceeding not more than 200 miles away from the place of refuge and with an allowable distance between the places of refuge not more than 400 miles.

Construction of pr. 174610 "VSESLAV"

Welded steel hull. To decrease the weight and lower the center of gravity, the 2nd tier superstructure, wheelhouse, and mast are made of aluminum. The forecastle end of the vessel is covered with a metal awning, which protects the crew when working on deck during bad weather and reduces the icing of the anchor and mooring devices at subzero temperatures.

The vessel is equipped with a diesel power plant, with a reduction gear and a controllable pitch propeller in a fixed nozzle, and a steering gear located in the stern. To improve handling, a bow thruster is installed.

In accordance with the AUT3 automation class, the trawler does not require the constant presence of a watch in the engine room.

“VSESLAV” has a V8 main engine, 746 kW at 1600 rpm. Gearbox – gear ratio 11.43:1, with a built-in pitch change mechanism and two power take-offs: to drive the shaft generator, and with an electric clutch to drive the main oil pump of the marine hydraulic system. The propeller has a diameter of 2.7 m, a thrust of 15 tons at a trawling speed of 4.5 knots.

The vessel is equipped with a 119 kW shaft generator and two 119 kW diesel generators, as well as an auxiliary diesel fuel boiler with a thermal power of 150 kW.

The trawler has a seawater cooling system (RSW) based on two semi-hermetic piston compressors, with a theoretical suction volume of 110 m3/h, and a flooded type evaporator shell.

The trawler is equipped with a full set of radio navigation and communications equipment in accordance with the permitted navigation area. “VSESLAV” is also equipped with an under-the-keel echo sounder and a fish-finding sonar.

As fishing equipment, a hydraulic trawl complex made in Denmark is installed on the vessel. It includes: three split trawl winches pulling force 11 tons on the first layer, rope capacity 1100 meters of 16mm steel cable; double net drum, traction force 11 tons on the first layer, drum capacity 6 and 9 m3; auxiliary drum winch, traction force 8 tons and a sound winch.

The set also includes: a 150-kW main hydraulic pump driven by a gearbox, a 75 kW electric pump, all the necessary fittings and controls. Additionally, a trawl computer is installed to automatically control the length of the warps and the force on the trawl winches, control of net reels. The complex was specially designed for project 174610. Hydraulic winches with direct drive from hydraulic motors have a good weight/dimensions/traction ratio, which in turn has a positive effect on the weight characteristics of the vessel, stability, and controllability.

The Danish company also supplied the steering gear, rudder with stock and helm port, and anchor-mooring winch.

Additionally, the trawler is equipped with an electric winch for working with the trawl. The vessel also provides for the installation of an auxiliary stern crane.

As a lifting device, “VSESLAV” uses an electro-hydraulic crane with a lifting capacity of 3 tons at a maximum reach of 6 meters, designed for operations with cargo, as well as moving personnel in a special basket. In accordance with RS Rules, the presence of a cargo-person crane compensates a rescue boat on board the vessel, which in turn allows saving space on the fishing deck.

The vessel's navigation autonomy is 7 days in accordance with the 2020 “Sanitary Requirements” The trawler has: a single cabin, three double cabins, one triple cabin. Each cabin has a bed, table, sofa, wardrobe, and washbasin with cold and hot water.

There is a shared bathroom, shower and laundry room with an automatic washing machine and dryer.

The crew mess room has a place for meals or rest of 8 crew members.

In terms of fuel and crew costs, the vessel is like small 20-40 years old vessels, on the other hand it has a three-fold power reserve and uses various fishing principles and fishing gear even during one voyage. The vessel can fully replace the old fishing trawlers that have been in operation for more than 40 years in a ratio of 1 to 3, and with minor changes, vessels of other projects for coastal fishing.

The project provides for high seaworthiness, allowing for increased fishing time; large cargo space to store your catch; high class of vessel automation (AUT3, without constant watchkeeping in the engine room), significantly reducing the manual labor and requiring a minimum of maintenance in the operation.

The captain notes the perfect handling of the trawler and excellent visibility on the navigation bridge: "This is a fundamentally different level of fishing vessels."

Project 174610 was approved by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation and recommended to build.
